Commodities — frequently asked questions

Commodity CFDs let you trade the price of raw materials — crude oil, natural gas, wheat, corn, coffee, sugar and many more — without buying barrels, bushels or storage. You speculate on the rise or fall of the underlying futures contract, with leverage and the ability to go short.

Tradenifty covers energy (US Crude/WTI, UK Brent, Natural Gas, Gasoline, Heating Oil), agricultural softs (Coffee, Cocoa, Sugar, Cotton, Orange Juice) and grains (Wheat, Corn, Soybeans). All instruments stream live from the underlying futures markets.

Trading hours follow each commodity's primary futures exchange. WTI Crude trades roughly 23 hours a day from Sunday 22:00 GMT, while agricultural commodities typically run a US session of 13:00–18:30 GMT with limited overnight liquidity. Exact hours per instrument are published in the platform.

Commodity CFDs follow a specific futures contract month and roll forward automatically before expiry. A few days before the front-month contract expires, Tradenifty closes the expiring contract at the official settlement and opens the new front month at the same price, so your position remains intact without any action from you.

Energy prices respond to OPEC+ output, US inventory data, geopolitical events and seasonal demand. Agricultural commodities are driven by weather, planting and harvest reports, currency strength and global supply chains. Following the relevant economic calendar release schedule is essential for active commodity traders.

Energy CFDs typically allow leverage up to 1:200 and agricultural softs up to 1:100. Margin requirements are higher around contract expiry and major scheduled releases (EIA weekly oil inventory, WASDE crop reports). All requirements are shown per symbol in your trading platform.
